Houston Area Latina Entrepreneur Wins Five Regional Industry Awards . Diversity and Inclusion Work Among Accolades
Hispanic entrepreneur Valentina Gomez Bravo received four awards from the American Advertising Federation – Houston Chapter for brand strategy and for her personal work in diversity and inclusion.
Originally from Venezuela, Gomez Bravo moved to the United States in 2014 for the promise of better opportunities when the government situation in her native country became unstable. Armed with an MBA and several successful ventures as an entrepreneur, she uprooted her design firm and navigated the complex American immigration and business systems.
“Winning these awards for my work to elevate creativity, empathy, leadership and love is both a humbling and rewarding experience, especially after my journey over the last six years,” said Valentina Gomez Bravo, Founder, CEO and Creative Director at Bunker +58. “Having my work celebrated among some of the biggest names in my industry in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and other neighboring states validates the risks I took in coming to this country in pursuit of a brighter future.”
The awards include:
· District 10 – 2020 Mosaic Champion Award: recognizes individuals within Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas, whose commitment to diversity and inclusion is evident through their creative work, mentorship, leadership and organization-wide initiatives by implementing cutting edge strategies and approaches for addressing diversity issues, among other acts.
· Four Industry Awards for Client-Specific Work: The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition, attracting nearly 35,000 entries every year in local AAF competitions.
Gomez Bravo also believes her extensive community engagement contributed to the 2020 Mosaic Champion Award, including:
· Creating a new internship for Latina students with the University of Houston Downtown's Center for Latino Studies – Latina Achieve program. Twelve student interns are currently participating in the inaugural semester, learning marketable skills to build their futures.
· Building TexasEnEspanol.com, a new online Spanish-language business directory that provides consumers with an easy-to-navigate platform of businesses who provide services in their langauge, an events calendar and even a marketplace for used items.
Thank you – every client, every mentor, every friend – for making this possible! We’re stronger every time we work with you!
